Week 8 Weigh In

So Tuesday evening Jason and I went to get weighed in for the past week, but I am not counting it. We typically get weighed in every Sunday morning (this past weekend we were out of town) and this week we weighed in the evening. I started the week of the month where I retain water on Sunday & I got weighed on an entirely different scale. Needless to say, I gained 0.2lbs. Since there was a lot of error in this weeks weigh in I am not counting it. All my measurements I took on my usual day and I lost .25 inches from my arms, thighs, hips, and waist. I know I lost weight this past week. So.... I am going to get weighed in this weekend on Sunday so I can get back to my usual schedule of weight waters weigh ins. It is so FRUSTRATING seeing a weight gain when I worked out more this past week than I did the prior week.  

On a happy note, my student teaching is going really well! I love my teacher and my 3rd graders. I am truly enjoying this learning experience. I am just reassured that this is the job for me!  

Jason has his 1st medical school test tomorrow so he's been studying his butt off. He's been studying his butt off since he started medical school, but more for his test. The first week was tough on us because we weren't sure how we would get a chance to be together, but this past week went a lot better and we figured it out. He studies while I do school stuff, wedding stuff, or relax until around 5pm when he is done studying. This schedule only applies for weekends not week days. During the week days, we have been seeing each other about every other day or every two days. It has been an adjustment, but not terrible. I am really proud of how hard he works and his dedication to doing well. He's a pretty terrific man!

What a day!

Today was my first day of student teaching with students at school and Jason's first day of official medical school. My day went really well! All the staff at the school is super nice and very helpful in terms of encouragement, finding stuff, and teaching me how to use the laminator, etc. :) I met my classroom of 23 third graders. They seem pretty great! Today went really fast and my teacher and I mostly focused on reminding the students' of the school rules and teaching them our classroom's rules. Some of them were still in summer mode so they needed a few reminders and teacher looks. (teacher looks are facial gestures that teachers use for students who are off task to know what they should be doing without words... I'm pretty good at them :0) After school my teacher and I worked on our lesson planning for tomorrow. I am liking this teacher stuff! It is a lot more work than most people give us credit for, but I can't wait until I get to start teaching more and by myself. EXCITING!!

Jason's first day of medical school went well too. He was a little overwhelmed, but I think that is pretty common and expected. He studied his butt off and read all weekend for today's class and he said he felt he performed average. I think that is great! I told him to remember that he is in medical school, the people he is in class with are in the top 2% of their undergrad schools like he was. In medical school he will not flatten the competition as much as he did in undergrad. Today he also did his first lab with cutting his cadaver. They examined the chest today which included the  muscles, bones, etc..  He said he didn't get queazy or anything, he looked at it as science not a human person. His group did decide not to name their cadaver though. They wanted to respect that it is a human being and that she did have a name and that they did not want to disrespect her and rename her. I thought that was pretty thoughtful. Anyway, Jason is swamped with reading and studying until the end of the semester in December. I'm sure any words of encouragement would be helpful:) I am so proud of him! I know he can do it! He does too, the first week is always the hardest.

Tonight, was also our last class of 3 premarital classes that we were required to take for us to get married at Jason's church. We were assigned to the same couple for 3 sessions where we went to their home and discussed important topics with them about marriage. At first I thought it was going to stink and I really wanted to get it over with, but now that we've done it I'm actually sad. I really enjoyed our couple, they were brutally honest and didn't sugar coat anything. Jason and I really felt comfortable talking with them and sharing our feelings with them about all the topics. I appreciated their advice and encouragement, they are very sweet and sincere people. 

Well, I need to go and get started writing an "About Me" letter of introduction to the parents of my class. I hope everyone has a great week! We are happy, busy, and blessed!
